World Linguistics Day 26th November

Did you know today is World Linguistics Day - a day to celebrate research and teaching in linguistics?

To celebrate, the University of Birmingham and the Linguistics Association of Great Britain (LAGB) are holding a video competition.

We are asking you to make a short video (2-3 minutes long) explaining (1) what sign language linguistics is and (2) why sign language linguistics is important.

There will be two prizes: (1) one for sign language students and (2) one for deaf community members

The videos can be in BSL or in International Sign.

Please submit your short video explaining what sign language linguistics is and why it is important by Friday 12th December 2025.

The prizes will both be £100.
